Is there more than one type of water?

Yes, you read that right. Before proceeding with the explanation, let’s learn how important water is for survival.

The human body is roughly 75 percent water. Water is a vital element in regulating daily internal and external bodily functions, including flushing out wastes from our bodies, regulating body temperature, and supporting brain activities; without water, the body cannot survive. Water is found inside cells, within blood vessels, and between cells.

A sophisticated water management system keeps our water levels balanced, and our thirst mechanism tells us when we need to increase fluid intake. Although water is constantly lost throughout the day as we breathe, sweat, and urinate, we can replenish the water in our body by drinking fluids. The body can also move water around to areas where it is needed most if dehydration begins to occur.

Some of the effects of dehydration are : sunken eyes, shrivelled and dry skin, low blood pressure, increased heart rate, kidney problems, fever, delirium and seizures, and unconsciousness.

That being said, there are different types of water available for you to stay hydrated with, but do you know what makes them different from one another? You will get your answer here.

Bottled Drinking Water

Malaysians buy bottled drinking water at convenience stores or directly from producers like Delcol to keep hydrated and healthy, but have we thought about what kind of treatment the water goes through before consumption? There are several treatment types used by major companies to purify, including filtration, reverse osmosis (or more commonly referred to as RO), UV, and ozone treatment.

Here at Delcol, we offer and supply 5 gallon RO water to residences, companies, universities, hotels, and many more. The Reverse Osmosis system works by applying pressure to untreated water and pushing it through a semi-permeable membrane to get clean, crystal, clear water on the other side. This is pure water.

Distilled Water

Water distillation is a purification process by boiling the water until it evaporates and condenses, leaving behind chemicals, minerals, and impurities. Distillation is a very expensive process making it not popular for common use. Distilled water is mainly used in the medical, automotive, cosmetics, and cleaning fields for different reasons.

Mineral Water

Mineral water comes from springs and contains various types of mineral components. Some of the elements present in mineral waters are calcium, magnesium, sodium, and many more. So, what are the benefits of drinking mineral water? A small-scale scientific study done in 2004 involving adults with borderline hypertension found that drinking a certain amount of mineral water daily could decrease their blood pressure. Strengthening bones, promoting a better digestive system, and regulating blood circulation are some of the other benefits of drinking mineral water.

Sparkling Water

Sparkling water is produced through a process called carbonation. The process of carbonation involves adding carbon dioxide under pressure, either naturally or manually. The water has an acidic or bitter taste due to the reaction that happens between carbon dioxide and water. Sparkling water can be an alternative drink to your craving for soda drinks as drinking too much sugary soda beverages can increase your risks of contracting dangerous diseases.

Tap Water and Filtered Water

Tap waters in Malaysia mainly originate from rivers and is stored in reservoirs before being released for treatment. Can we drink water directly from the tap? Based on tests carried out by MalaysiaKini in October 2018 our tap water in the Klang Valley gave a reading of 50-91 ppm of contaminants meaning that there are numerous concentrations of undesirable elements in the water. Therefore, it is not advisable to consume tap water directly, but to filter it first to rid of these contaminants which may even include dangerous chemicals and heavy metals. Delcol offers a variety of water filters for you to choose from. Click the links below for more information:

Water is an essential part of us and we need to consume it daily to stay alive and to ensure that our body functions at its peak. For the health of our family and our staff, we need to make sure that they get access to clean healthy water.

Delcol, being the pioneer in the Malaysian water industry, has been supporting Malaysians to get access to clean, healthy water for almost 30 years. If you are looking for RO, distilled, or even a water filter for your untreated tap water, let us support you by contacting us now at:
